An attractive and affordable Cypriot vessel dating to the Iron Age, circa 1050 B.C. - 650 B.C. This polychrome example measures approximately 5 1/4" wide (from handle to handle) and about 2" tall, and exhibits the characteristic concentric circle patterns on both the interior and exterior bottom of the vessel. Painted decoration features red and black against a cream colored slip. It exhibits a pleasing, balanced form, with two handles on opposing sides and an small footed base. Condition: Intact, save for only one handle being reattached with professional restoration over the breaklines to blend with the surrounding areas. Only minor chips and abrasions overall, and ample mineral deposits attest to the age and authenticity of this piece. Provenance: Former North Carolina private collection. An affordable and attractive example of ancient Cypriot pottery that displays well. |
