A large and interesting Pre-Columbian vessel from the Veraguas Peninsula of Panama. Featuring bird-like facial features on opposing sides of the neck, this vessel is quite large and HEAVY. Traces still remain of the white/cream slip that would have originally covered the vessel, now worn away over time. Small holes on opposite sides of the neck would have allowed for the insertion of a string, used either to secure a lid or as a handle for carrying or hanging the item. Mineral deposits are present and attest to its age. An interesting, larger piece that displays very well. Measures approx. 7 1/2" tall and 6" wide Condition: completely intact, no repairs or restoration, minor chipping, only traces of the white/cream slip remain. Provenance: former Minnesota private collection. |
