A rare Pre-Columbian standing figure from the Timoto Cuica culture of the ancient Venezuela, circa 800 A.D. - 1200 A.D. Measuring approximately 2" tall and 1 1/2" wide (unmounted), this item depicts a standing figure with truncated neck and bulging frog-like eyes. Comes mounted on a custom display stand, as shown. Pre-Columbian artifacts from Venezuela are very rare, and Timoto Cuica figures are becoming exceedingly hard to find. Condition: Wear and some erosion overall from centuries of burial and exposure to the elements. Black areas suggest the item has been through a fire/burned at some point in antiquity, after manufacture. Provenance: Former New York private collection. Reference: See "Little People of the Earth", page 29, for comparable examples. A rare and affordable Timoto Cuica figure that displays well. |
