A small carved black stone votive of a Llama and baby from the Inka (also spelled Inca) culture of ancient Peru/Bolivia, circa 16th century A.D. Measuring approximately 1 1/2" long by about 1" tall, this interesting item exhibits a nice surface patina, with mineral encrustations in the crevices. Condition: There is some minor ancient loss to the underside, and a small wooden stick has been glued in the area of loss in modern times to allow the item to stand upright unassisted (see photo of underside). This could be easily removed, if desired. Provenance: Former E. Behlen collection. An interesting, affordable example of ancient Inka art and handiwork. |
