Stunning, sculptural 970 sterling silver hand carved beads necklace strung on sensuous velvet cord designed and signed by Taxco, Mexico modernist silver Maestro Antonio Pineda. This circa 1950's necklace measures 28 inches long and weighs 103 grams, 3.6oz. Each of the 12 beads measure 3/4" across. Antonio's ingenious design balances the weight of the silver so that a simple loop of the velvet cord at the nape of the neck secures the necklace allowing it to be worn at whatever length or grouping you prefer. Beautiful vintage condition with no dents or dings. The sewn velvet cord tipped with two silver beads is original and in perfect condition.
Hallmarked with the Antonio crown, TAXCO, 970, eagle # 208. The design of the beads is similar to the bead work done by the Mixtec artists in western Oaxaca in 1200-1500 A.D.
