Whimsical vintage 1930's hand crafted sterling silver, turquoise & coral brooch designed and signed by Taxco, Mexico artist Matilde Poulat. The pin measures 2 1/2 inches long X 1 1/2" at widest point. Exquisite detail. Beautiful condition and patina. Original pin back and safety clasp work perfectly. Simply pull down on the bottom of clasp and slide pin point out. Poulat signed her designs MATL, a variation of the aztec word for water. Matilde opened her first Taxco shop in 1934. MATL designs are featured in the recently established permanent 20th century Mexican silver collection at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
