Graceful and sensuous sterling silver necklace designed and signed circa 1950 by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling(1900-67). The necklace measures 17 wearable inches long. The wrapped twisted silver design and subtle interior vermeil contrast creates a three dimensional effect. Signed on the back WS 925. Beautiful condition with gorgeous vintage patina. No dents, dings or repairs. Spratling referred to this design as "Colar Gola". Rarely seen on the market this necklace was featured in the museum exhibit WILLIAM SPRATLING AND THE MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE and is featured in the book of the same name by Penny Morrill. Spratling also used silver and contrasting tortoise in a version of this necklace design.
