Vintage sterling silver pin or brooch designed and signed circa 1942 by American & Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). The pin measures 1 5/8" X 1 1/4". Beautiful condition. The dress clip pin back is tight and secure. Pictured on Phyllis Goddards' spratlingsilver.com. Spratling used this "Continental Solidarity" design on his personal stationary. The design was offered in two sizes. This is the larger. We've included a picture of the smaller lapel button for comparison. The two sizes are pictured on p. 175 of Nancy Shiffers' 1996 book SILVER JEWELRY DESIGN. Spratling designs are featured in the permanent 20th Century Mexican silver collection at Los Angeles County Museum of Art - LACMA.
