SOLD!

Scissor spectacles, the forerunner of the lorgnette, were first made in Germany around 1750. Both George Washington and Napoleon Bonaparte owned a pair of scissor spectacles.

This pair are French Silver Gilt and feature 2 griffins, each holding up a lens. The ring at the bottom bears a French silver hallmark. These also test as silver.

Measure 4" in length not including the ring and 2 3/4" wide

Very good condition - no breaks or repairs

An outstanding pair to add to a collection!
