This rare blue, white and enamelled spittoon is painting with tree peony issuing from rockwork on the globular body and has a band of petals around the broad conical neck. It’s interior with a border of trellis pattern. There were only eighty of this type in the whole Nanking Cargo and I believe some were damaged. There are faint traces of pattern that remain in ghost form. This is because during manufacture, the coloured enamels were applied on top of the glaze...

This fabulous little creature was the most sought after in the Sotheby’s Ca Mau sale. There were only twenty three of them, being the largest in size. It has a light brown body and is covered with little white prunts or nodules. I was extremely lucky to track six of these toads down in South Africa, they represent a unique opportunity to purchase a true rarity. I shall certainly be keeping one for my own collection. Height 6cm priced individually. The wreck was discov...

What impresses me the most about these shallow dishes is that although provincial and quite basic they are finely potted, way ahead of the capabilities of the western world in those days. Both dishes have a brown glazed interior that stops short of the unglazed rim, in good condition with no chips or cracks. One with fascinating colouration, a combination of silt and rust, gained from ironwork aboard ship. It has small amounts of encrustation to the exterior rim...
