Antique Maritime Interest "The Dragon" Box `This Box is part of a lower deck beam of The "Fame" 74 guns formally called the "Dragon" was built at the river Thames in the year 1798. These interesting mugs are decorated with an under glaze blue tree peony growing from rock on a terrace. Coloured enamels are applied over the glaze. Still unused.! The interior is painted with a rich underglaze cobalt blue pattern depicting a central peony spray with a pavillion amongst pine and rocks opposite a boat and a formation of flying geese. Asprey aquired this maker of high class leather goods in 1906. This is a fine example of Victorian empire style from the workshops of one of the best craftsmen of the day. This box is covered in Dark Green Pig skin with brass mounts secured by tiny flush fitting brass screws. The mounts have Fleur De Lys finials as does the heavy brass handle.
