This beautiful large vase is decorated in the traditional Iron Red and Cobalt Blue, depicting Flowers and Plants. What I find impressive about this example is that the Porcelain Is very thick making it a heavy piece. This leads me to believe that it may be earlier than is stated. This interesting mug is decorated with an under glaze blue tree peony growing from rock on a terrace. It has coloured enamels applied over the glaze. The mugs were especially ordered by the VOC. Of waisted hexagonal form with flat hexafoil rims. In the 16th 17th and 18th Century sea salt was used, a flakey substance picked up by hand. When salt was refined this style of stand went out of fashion, consiquently making these quite rare.
