Historic Legal Interest Rare 17th Century Silver ‘Staple Inn’ Trifid Spoon. This most interesting spoon bears the assay mark for London and dates between 1683 and 1697 (no Date letter). Makers initials WM with crown for William Matthew who specialised in spoons and was active between these dates. Engraved to the reverse ‘Staple Inn’. Staple Inn is the last surviving inn of Chancery, built in 1585 and was originally attached to Grays Inn which is one of the four inns of court. Staple I ...click for details
