| This fine painting shows a sturdy Jack Russell standing guard on his Cavalry Officer Masters uniform. showing the folding campaign chair with a flask hanging, the officers bright red coat and shiny brass plumed helmet laying on it. A sword can be seen leaning on the tent. If only this painting could talk, was the dog the regimental mascot or the officers pet, which war? which campaign?? There is one certainty Kate Sowerby was a most accomplished painter of dogs, she has captured the character of Jack Russell superbly. I used to breed them so one appreciates the expert depiction. Their is a signature in the lower left and corner, Kate Sowerby 1888. The actual painting is in good condition, as is the frame. There has been an infestation of storm flys to the mount, which I could have professionally removed for the cost of £12.00. I bought this picture forty five years ago from the rector of Coltishall who was a dear friend and also a breeder of Jack Russells. A truly fine painting, If only we knew the story behind it. Thank you for looking and for your time. If you have any questions, Please do not hesitate to contact me. | ||||||||
