Shipwreck Cargo Gold Brooch c1869 from Abbatucci Cargo
The General Abbatucci and her mysterious shipment lay on the soft seabed for 127 years before she was located in 1996. The expected cargo of gold was never found, but among the twisted metal hull and skeletal remains were pieces of jewellery, watches and coins which were recovered from a depth of over 8,000 feet. These pieces were sold at Christies Auction in 1997. This exquisite solid gold broach is in superb wearable condition was sold at Christies Auction 1997. This oval broach has a central star motif, set with pearls against a stippled ground with rope decorated surround. The outer mount is set with two pearls and a single drop. At the top is a loop, so it can be worn as a pendant if so desired. The broach has been cleaned by Christies, the pearls added and the clasp repaired by a professional jeweller, thus making this stunning piece of maritime treasure a very wearable item. Size 6.5cm height. 4cm width. If you have any queries about this item please feel free to contact me. Thank you for looking and for your time.
