| Description: An intriguing ivory netsuke in old patina was carved with a skeleton figure leaning to a skull. Half-squatting, the skeleton leaned to the skull by his or her right hand when protecting it with the left hand. With fantastic skill, the piece was carved in open work from one solid ivory block. Good ivory tissues and patina were yielded when realistic skeleton anatomy was rendered. It was a piece from Japan as a netsuke or possibly a piece from Tibet as Chitipati(the Lord of the Funeral Pyre) who always appeared in pairs to be enemies of thieves. A similar item made of silver is for reference in the last picture. Date: 18/19th Century. Height: 5.5cm, Condition: Very good with only one minor touch-up on the ankle of the left foot. | |||||||||||
