Description: A wood sculpture of a Daoist figure Kui-Xing was rendered in special form. Wearing the official robe, holding a scroll and sitting on a rock stool, the figure was in an image that differed from those that we've commonly seen. Another Kui-Xing, in terracotta quality was listed as lot069 in my listings. It was molded in a posture standing in one bare foot on the head of a Dragon Fish. It was the typical form. Despite this, with the same imagery of an unfriendly facial composition, the figure was carved in details and adorned with gold wrappings which had been fading away. A common subject but with variations was kept in perfect condition except the frets on the surface. It was joyfully to find that even the original brush pen survived after hundreds of years of worshipping. Date: Qing Dynasty (18th Century) Height: 17.5cm Condition: perfect
