| Description: A nephrite jade boy was carved uniquely holding a leaf. By the intriguing subject, the jade boy was rendered characteristically by the dated features . In the costumes, he was clad as traditional tribe’s people. In Chinese jade culture, nomadic jades were uniquely grouped by their strong forms. The most obvious characteristics were on the special carving skills which were sleek and simple in expressing the profiles and the details, then were the joyful subjects which were different from the jades found in Han people's culture of later dates. In this piece, the slender nose, narrowed mouth and threadlike eyes reminds us the nomadic people with Mongolian origin. Finally, the jade quality here was in a characteristically white which was usually called The White of the Flesh of Litchi Fruit which was transparent and in light greenish tint. It was commonly seen in the group of jade pieces of Song to Jin periods. From the side angle, the profile of the head was uniquely shaped by a slant cutting trough from the ear's back to the chin. Obvious incursion was happened from the top of his head to his neck. It can prove the piece was from excavation for sure. Date: Jin Dynasty (12th century), Height: 5.1cm. | |||||||||||||
