One decent painted jar was well molded in a grand look. By the straw glazed slip on the surface, the well maneuvered sketching motifs- the vibrant peony flowers and spread leaves were vividly rendered in a regular form around the straight wall.
From the freehand but strictly applied brushwork on the surface and the beige body clay revealed at the foot ring, the beautiful ware was authenticated as a piece from Cizhou kilns for sure -but a restricted one.
That makes the piece a unique one.
A Yuan piece or earlier was reasonable judged.
Charming crackles were spread under the glaze all over the surface inside and out of the surface.
It happened too to the white protection layers too.
All these verified the enduring age.
And by the elegant shape, it was likely being used as a brush washer by the scholars.

Date: Jin/Yuan periods.

Width: 19cm, Height: 14.1cm.
