THAI SAWANKHALOK stoneware circular “box” is an excellent example of the wares manufactured in the area of Si Satchanalai (about 320 km north of Bangkok) production of which ceased by the early 1500s, owing probably to warfare in the region. Wares such as these were exported primarily to Indonesia, the Philippines and Borneo and are associated with non-Buddhist burial rites and were not actually used in Thailand...
