An Oribe hand-shaped vase suitable for tea ceremony

A fine Oribe hand-shaped vase of well-balanced, asymmetrical form with a blue-green glaze descending from the mouth and spilling over the shoulder. The exposed horizontal ribs of the body are intersected with impressed finger-shaped channels. A soft café au lait-colored glaze embellished with a delicate craquelare is the ground for a fluid and rhythmic dark brown painted decoration of orchids juxtaposed with random geometric motifs. A tiny potter’s mark appearing on the outside edge of the underside of the vase has not yet been identified, although the bluish tint of the traditional green glaze is usually found on Oribe wares of the early 20th century. The condition is excellent. Height: 18cm (7”). Weight: 1.050Kg (2 lbs. 5 ozs.). Copyright (c) by Robert McCaffrey for Ruyi Studio San Francisco. All Rights Reserved.
