An undecorated Longquan bowl, 12/13th C.
A plain Longquan bowl from Zhejiang with good form dating to the 12/13th C. (Southern Song to early Yuan period), undecorated, except for the impressed circular line at the bottom of the interior. Many of these bowls were glazed upside down as evidenced by the glazed footrim, which has been cut at an angle, and the narrow, unglazed, everted, mouthrim. The bowl exhibits an overall craquelare but is without chips or restorations. Its somewhat unusual brownish color is likely the result of the “burnt orange” firing color showing through a thin olive green glaze and is characteritic of many though not most Longquan wares of this period. Dimensions. Height: 7cm (2-3/4”); diameter of mouthrim: 16.9cm (6-5/8”); diameter of foot: 6cm (2-3/8”). Weight: .411Kg (14.5 ozs.).
