This is very rare Old antique textile hemp and shina-fu and kaji of the Meiji era(1868-1900). It is charming very beautifully. It has slight damage.shina Tree (Tilia japonica) is a Japanese endemic species. And shina-fu is the textile which It made from fiber of the bark of shina Tree.
It is slightly produced in Yamagata. It is dark brown, and the texture is full of rural beauty rudely.
The kaji(Paper mulberry ) is a tree distributed over Southeast Asia.
It was respected as a sacred tree to give to God from the ancient times in our country and has been used as materials of a Japanese paper and the cloth again.
Since poor people, such as a farmer, were expensive, they were not able to use cotton for clothing to late Meiji Era.
And they were using the fiber of hemp, kaji, or shi-fu as clothing.
