| Antique Chinese cloisonne charger, dating between 1870 and 1890. The Motifs represent the four seasons with four kinds of flowers: chyrantemum for fall, peonies for summer, fruit tree blossoms for spring, and winter tree foliage. The outer blue section represents all the seasons, with a t-fret cloison on enamel background. The center represents summer with the butterfly and with the same t-fret cloison with white enamel background. You will also see some lotus foliage and a swastika on the back section with ribbons, a Buddhist symbol of good omen, representing everlasting life. The Foot Rest is the most interesting type of cloisonne because this type of colorful hexagonal pattern was in use a lot during the 19th century on Chinese cloisonne pieces. Excellent Condition Dimensions: 12" diameter x 2" height | ||
