A special work of art in the garden, this is a fine old Japanese stone columnar style water basin tsukubai which we date to 1800-1850, late Edo period and originally from an old Japanese tea garden. It has a wonderful "wabi sabi" aesthetic. It was crafted from a granite stone- truely an artistic gem! It measures about 27" high and 18" wide at top. It is in fine original and weathered condition with some minor chipping- well suited to a tea garden or small or large exterior location! This early style of water basin is a rare find- few were likely originally crafted and few survive.
