A charming, larger scale seated Shaka (derived from Skt. Sakyamuni), the historical Buddha, whose carefully postured hands form the jo-in concentration mudra. Sculpted from a hard volcanic stone and dates to middle Edo period, 18th-19th century. Minor old loss and overall surface pitting-evidence of great age combined with gentle softening of its lines make this work of art worthy of careful consideration. Large scale size 22"h x 15"w suitable for special sanctuary or cherished garden location.
