| 19th century polychromed and carved wooden statue of a bishop wearing gilt vestments, a miter and gloves. In his right hand he holds a crozier with what looks like a fleur-de-lys in the crook. In his left hand he holds a book with 2 fish resting on it. The figure could possibly represent Saint Ulrich, bishop of Augsburg, AD 973, who once converted flesh into fish that his people might not break a fast (from Saints and their Symbols by EA Greene, 1911) Condition is excellent with a maker's mark and symbol on the bottom. Total height from base to top of staff is 27" | ||
