| A pair of wood obelisks, made in Italy and painted to look like green marble (faux marbre) The top half rests on 4 gold balls which sit on a plinth (4" x 4" x 6" tall). The form of the obelisk originated in Egypt. The Romans stole 13 Egyptian obelisks from Ancient Egypt and set them up in their beautiful piazzas around the Eternal City, where they remain to this day, often topped off and Christianized by the popes with a bronze orb and cross. This small pair (20" tall) was made of wood in Florence, as attested to by labels on the bottom which is nicely covered with marbleized paper. Condition is overall very good with some splitting and pocking of the wood veneer. | ||
