Mizpah Silver Brooch, 1863-64

This lovely sterling silver Mizpah brooch is a great example of the sentimentality of the period. Mizpah, (a Hebrew word which literally means "watchtower")perhaps as an acrostic means "May The Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another." 1 1/8 inches in diameter, in excellent condition and highly collectible. Hallmarked for Birmingham, 1863-64 with the lion passant for sterling silver and a makers mark of R&M.
