| Fabulous studio pottery vase by Heiner Balzar which is really more of a sculpture than a vase. This piece has a captivating design and wonderful texture. Balzar is a prominent ceramic artist in Germany whose work commands strong prices (go to the Handweberei Hinder website, click on Keramik, and then Heiner Balzar.) The piece stands 12 1/2" tall and is 9 inches wide. In excellent condition, it is signed on the base, Hz 39/85. Here is an excerpt from Neue Keramik Magazine: In Germany, the name of Balzar is inextricably linked with the history of ceramics. Elfriede Balzar-Kopp is considered one of the key figures in the crafts, having renewed the tradition of saltglazed stoneware in the thirties and forties of the last century. Her son, Heiner Balzar, continued the development of this glaze technique and is one of the group of leading figures who showed a completely new potential in working with this traditional glazing technique as early as the 70s and 80s. | ||||||||
