Art Nouveau Silver Carnelian Necklace, 1917

This fabulous art nouveau silver carnelian necklace is from Germany. The German variant of the French Art Nouveau is called Jugendstil ("youth style") and with it's repousse technique and floral motifs is often mistaken for the Scandinavian "skonvirke" production of firms such as Georg Jensen and Bernhard Hertz.

This wonderful piece is stamped 935 on the rear for silver content (slightly higher than sterling) and is engraved "Weihnacht 1917" - for Christmas 1917. The pendant is designed as a basket of flowers with the oval carnelian as the floral centerpiece. It is in excellent condition, very attractive and a wonderful piece of history to own.

The pendant is 3 1/4" from the top to the bottom of the carnelian drop. It is 2" wide. The chain is 20 1"4" but has an additional clasp to shorten if desired.
