Signed, studio ceramic vase by Hakenjos Kandern. Hermann Hakenjos took over the Kandern pottery works in the 1920s from the renowned Max Lauger. After forming Faience Manufactur Kandern (FMK) with his son Hermann Karl and the equally renowned Richard Bampi in 1927, the Hakenjos both left in 1934 to start their own pottery studio.
The glaze on this reminds me of Fulper pieces with its rich colors and varied tones that blend into one another. Measuring 2 1/2" tall and 3 1/2" wide, it is in excellent condition. As to age, the information I have been given is that this is almost definitely by the elder Hakenjos and from the 1930s but there is a slight chance it is from the early 50s when the pottery reopened after the war. |
