| Bauhaus style mid century modern pottery vase by Lu (Ludwig) Klopfer. Most of his work is highly colorful and often reminiscent of stained glass. This piece has a very strong but simple, clean design with it's only adornment being the the three bands of slightly raised bars around the upper perimeter. It is just over 4 1/2 inches tall; has a diameter of approximately 5 inches and the upper portion is 16 1/2 inches in circumference. Ludwig Klopfer (1924-1977) produced much of his work for the Kunsttöpferei Johann Lipp in Mering,Germany. He was the grandson of Johann Lipp, who founded the pottery in the middle of the 19th century. In the 1940s, Klopfer became the art director and the modern shapes and new glaze-techniques of the 50s, 60s and 70s are the result of his creative work. He often did not sign his work, and used a series of numbers and sometimes letters to mark them. | |||||||
