| A pottery vase by Richard Uhlemeyer, a German studio potter whose work had a significant influence on the mid-century artistic explosion of the 1950's-70's. In 1938, three years after opening his own workshop, he received his master’s designation in pottery. He experimented with the development of differentiated and complicated glazes. Uhlemeyer died in 1954 and the workshop closed in 1961. This lovely vase is 7 3/4" tall and about 21 1/2 inches in circumference at it's widest. The muted palette is a seamless blend of greys, greens and some brown. The sgraffito pattern is very subdued on this piece, likely due to the colors. It is in excellent condition, and marked on the base with the double horse heads. I have three other Uhlemeyer vases listed. | ||||||||
