| Fabulous palette on this tall vase by Mathies Schwarze, a master potter, who trained in Germany with some of the most preeminent ceramic artists, he has been working since the 1960s and now has his own school as well. This textured glaze, almost like the peel of a fruit, is a wonderful seamless blend of greens and maroons. It has a lovely sinuous shape with a thin neck and slightly protruding top. It stands a shade under 14 1/2 inches and has a small glaze pop near the base. Does not detract but mentioned for accuracy. Please see closeups as well to appreciate the glaze colors and texture. Mathies' work has appeared in numerous competitions and is in several museums and private collections worldwide.
