| A pottery vase by Richard Uhlemeyer, a German studio potter whose work had a significant influence on the mid-century artistic explosion of the 1950's-70's. In 1938, three years after opening his own workshop, he received his master’s designation in pottery. He experimented with the development of differentiated and complicated glazes. Uhlemeyer died in 1954 and the workshop closed in 1961. This lovely vase is 9 1/2" tall and about 16 1/2 inches in circumference at it's widest. The palette of speckled greens and browns is characteristic of his work. The sgraffito pattern provides an excellent color contrast as does the subtle use of dark on the lip of the vase. It is in excellent condition. | |||||||||
