|This piece is a great 3 piece folk art wood carving. Sulton's work is created with a soul and essence of where we came from, coupled with contemporary images and folk creations. Jesus had to pass through Samaria, and he came near a field that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and so Jesus, wearied as he was with his journey, sat down beside the well. There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. The Samaritan woman said to him, “how is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered her, “if you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you Living Water.” Carved by Sulton Rogers Dimensions Jesus-15"x 2" x 7" Samarian woman-16"x 2"x 3" well-11"x 10" x 7" Sulton Rogers (B 1922- ) Mississippi Referenced in:- 20th Century American Folk, Self Taught, and other Outsider Art, Betty-Carol Sellen, Neal Schulman 1993, p 7,14,16,21,30,32,34-6,39,52,69,81,83-85,105,107,409 Contemporary American Folk Art- A Collector's Guide, Abbeville Press 1996, p 46,56,66,182,188-9,269 Outsider Art of the south-Kathy Moses, Schiffer Publishing Ltd 1999, p 102-7|
