Tiger Chair - Dow Pugh

Dow Pugh (1906-1994) An Appalachian artist. Dow had a dry sense of humor, and he used that wood, just whittled it to make something. He thought it turned out pretty good, and that was his first carving. That would have been in the early sixties. Pugh fashioned birds, fish and snakes, Indian heads, and tomahawks, as well as busts of mountain people and political cartoons from buckeye, pine and hickory. He also painted pictures on canvas and walls and painted heads on gourds, and decorated outbuildings with incredible life-size figures composed of buck-eye and painted concrete. Featured in Outsider Art of the South, Kathy Mosses, Schiffer Publishing Inc, 1999. Pg 223 Chair Dimensions 32" x 14" x 13.5"
