This is a wonderful Cubist tile plaque created by the artist Harris Strong. Strong was born in Wisconsin in 1920, and was inspired to became an artist by his aunt's greeting card company. He was as artist, as well as a scientist, and experimented with glazes and color on his ceramic tile art. he was also a painter, but his true passion was working with ceramic tile. There is a 30 foot long freestanding ceramic tile mural at the Waldorf-Astoria in NY city which still remains in place. This great piece depicting a face, is composed of 12 6" square tiles. This piece measures 38 1/2" x 13 1/2". The tiles have a blue and green Majolica glaze and comes framed in its original 43 1/2" x 19 1/2" painted wood frame. This piece is believed to have been created in the 1960's.
