1831 ABERDEEN SCOTLAND IVORY-TOPPED PRESENTATION CANE

This handsome early Scottish presentation cane is topped with an ivory knob handle with a metal disk on top of the knob. The disk is engraved "Aberdeen Craigen Darach by Ballater 26th Novr 1831 T.W. Merkel March 1845." If memory serves, "darach" means oak in Celtic and Ballater is the nearest settlement to and the railway station for Balmoral Castle. The handle, including silver tone collar, measures 1-1/2 x 2-1/8 inches. The stepped hardwood shaft has a grommet and terminates in a 2-1/2-inch bi-metal tip. Overall length is 36 inches.
