VICTORIAN IVORY HORSE HEAD WALKING STICK

During the Victorian era, equine canes were popular with horse fanciers and horse racing afficionados who carried their walking sticks to the race track. The ivory L handle on this circa cane is fashioned with a carved horse's head and measures 3 x 2-1/4 inches. The horse's eyes are glass. The hallmarked sterling silver German (900 fine) silver collar is engraved "Fritz Zimmer - Otto Van Spring". Perhaps the cane was a gift from one gentleman to another. The snakewood shaft terminates in a horn tip. The overall length of this attractive stick is 35 inches.
