c. 1855 5-PC COIN SILVER TEA SET/J.E. CALDWELL, PHILA.

This extraordinary J.E. Caldwell 5-piece coin silver tea service was made circa 1855 by the early Philadelphia silversmith. The firm began business around 1848 and is manufacturing to this day. In the Neo-Classical helmet style with collet-footed base, this hand chased set consists of tea pot, coffee pot, creamer, covered sugar bowl, and waste bowl. Each piece is stamped J.E. Caldwell & Co. Philadelphia 466. Total weight of all 5 pieces is 104.89 troy ounces. Dimensions are as follows: 1.) tea pot (7-3/4 in. h at top of handle, 7 in. handle to handle, 26.75 troy oz.) 2.) coffee pot (9 in. h at top of handle, 9-1/4 in. handle to handle, 32.93 troy oz.) 3.) creamer (5 in. h at top of handle, 5-1/4 in. handle to handle, 9.45 troy oz.) 4.) sugar bowl (5-1/4 in. top of handle, 7-1/2 in. handle to handle, 20.26 troy oz.) 5.) waste bowl (4-1/2 in. top of handle, 6-1/2 in. handle to handle, 15.50 troy oz.). This is a wonderful coin silver tea set in great condition.
