MACGOWAN TUTTLE (1861-1935)NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL 1925

Macgowan Tuttle(American, 1861-1935's oil on canvas depiction of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is viewed from the front along the Seine River. It is signed verso and the title “Notre Dame Paris 1925”. Originally from Muncie, Indiana, Tuttle studied under the greats William Merritt Chase and Frank Duveneck and in Paris at the Academie Julien with J.P. Laurens. He was a member of the prestigious National Arts Club, the Salmagundi Club, and the Paris Artist’s Association. Tuttle's works are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, The National Gallery of Art, the Library of Congress, and Yale University. He was also a wood engraver, doing subjects directly from nature. Tuttle is included in "Who Was Who in American Art", "The Artist’s Blue Book" by Dunbier, Mallett’s "Index of Artists", Mantle Fielding’s "Dictionary of Artists", and "Artists of the Litchfield Hills" by Robert Michael Austin. Dimensions: 12 x 16 in., sight; 18 x 22 in. in 24-carat gold leaf frame.
