2 VINTAGE STERLING SILVER JULEP CUPS/NO MONO/ HEAVY

These two classic sterling silver mint julep cups were made by Empire Silver, probably around the mid-1950s. Quite heavy, one cup weighs 5.59 troy ounces and the other 5.72. Both cups measure 4 inches high, 3-1/8 inches in diameter at the rim and 2-3/4 inches in diameter at the base. Pleasing as a pair or bought individually, each cup is $275. No monogram and in fine condition. The julep cup has a great Kentucky association. The popularity of the beaker form in Kentucky, where it is regionally called a julep cup, is partially accounted for as a symbol of a time before the Civil War----a time of romantic gentility, relaxed wealth and graciousness, an era when a man’s breeding was reflected in his manners and hospitality.
