Orient & Flume glass box, art nouveau style with scarab. Orient & Flume Art Glass Paperweight C. 1975. Not Signed, but has been verified recently by an Orient & Flume artist that worked there in the 1970's as one of their studio pieces.
Orient & Flume is known for their art glass and their works may be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Smithsonian, the Chicago Art Institute and the Corning Glass Museum. The company was founded by Douglas Boyd, and he was known to make some of these scarab boxes, and some can be found with his initials. I see no markings but the marking may be small and I am overlooking it. The scarab on this Art Nouveau-style box has the beautifulcarnival blue iridescence that distinguishes many of Douglas Boyd’s glass pieces. Size: 1 3/8" x 1 1/2" and is 2" tall plus, the scarab. PERFECT condition. No cracks or chips, and hinge on the box is EXCELLENT.
