| A wonderful Necklace by Winifred Mason Chenet, who is known to have signed her work chenet d'haiti. According to published reports Mason Chenet was an African American woman, hand crafting jewelry in Greenwich Village. She reportedly worked with and trained Art Smith, a well respected African American modernist jeweler. She believed that each piece should be unique and distinctive. This pendant and chain are made of copper. The pendant has a raised design over a darker patina. Measures 2 1/4" across. The hand made chains are 11 1/2" long each. Closes with a hook clasp. Great weight, feels like you are wearing something significant. Pendant is marked with the stylized chenet d'haiti mark. In very nice condition. Great bold design. | ||
