Unusual figural porcelain vase by George E. Johnson (American, born 1951). Signed "Johnson" and dated "1993" on the inside of the foot. This vase is decorated with two figures and a number of additional motifs in bright enamels on porcelain. George Johnson worked for Moravian Tile Company in the early nineties after receiving a degree in Ceramics from New York State College. 6 of his works are in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Rare and unusual glazed ceramic plate by Alice Sordet Bonifas (1917-1980), circa 1960. About 8" in diameter. Signed "Lifas". Alice Sordet Bonifas was the wife of Paul Ami Bonifas. She signed her own works "Lifas".
Antique soumak horse or donkey cover in excellent condition, early 20th Century, Caucasian or Shahsavan origin. 40" by 57". A rare object for the collector.
Very large unusual footed bowl by Roger Guerin (Belgium, 1896-1954), circa 1920-1930. Signed "Guerin" (signature #9 in "Sel et Feu") and incised 160/D for glaze and form. Salt fired as most pieces from this maker were. Very dramatic shades of blue over cream, oatmeal, light and dark brown. Roughly 11" across and 8" tall. Some wear to the glaze on the edge, otherwise in good condition. One of a number of works by this artist currently available.

Large and impressive ceramic vase by Jean Marais (France, 1913-1998). 9 1/2" tall, in excellent condition. Signed twice "Jean Marais" (bottom and side). Jean Marais was an icon of French cinema, known for his collaboration with Jean Cocteau in Beauty and the Beast, and the Orphee movies. In the seventies he moved to Vallauris in the South of France where he started producing ceramics and opened a gallery which is now a Museum that bears his name. Rare.

Deutch was a student of Brancusi in Paris before coming to the US. He exhibited at the Syracuse Nationals in 1937, had a solo show at the Dallas Museum of Art in 1948 and at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was teaching, in 1959...

Large exceptional vase by Edgard Aubry (Belgium, 1880-1943), circa 1920s, bearing his "E.Aubry" incised signature on the bottom--indicating that it dates from the pre-1929 period. 12" in diameter and over 6" high. Please look for similar examples in "Sel et Feu" and " Au Tour des Aubry" by Fauconnier and Migeot. Bouffioulx and Chatelet School. An impressive vase by an important Belgian ceramicist who worked in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles.

Rare vase by Pol Chambost (France, 1906-1983), circa 1950s. Egyptian blue glaze (crackeled). 16.5cm, 7cm wide. Incised mark that reads: "2072 Poterie Pol Chambost Modele Depose France". In excellent condition. Pol Chambost is an important figure in French ceramics and design of the mid-century period. Although trained as a sculptor he is mainly known for his work with art pottery.
