Clifford Wright was born in Seattle, where he began training as a painter at the Cornish School of Art with Walter Reese, and Mark Tobey who would remain a friend and mentor for most of his life. He left Seattle for New York in 1946, was awarded a Yaddo scholarship/residency which would turn into a 7 year position as assistant to the director. Wright married Danish writer Elsa Gress (whom he had met at Yaddo) and they both spent the rest of their life in Denmark, where Wright is mostly remembered. Most of this artist's works remain in galleries, collections, and museums in that country. Well exhibited, and listed in all the usual reference works and databases.
