| Original bronze sculpture by Leonard Schwartz (American, 1923-1988). Brown patina bronze on original wood base. Signed at the foot of the figure "Leonard" and dated "57". 11 1/4" by 7" by 7" (sculpture alone). In beautiful original condition. Titled "Mother Idol" on a label inside the sculpture. Leonard Schwartz is mostly known as a sculptor. He was born in Cincinnati, was a GI in WWII and subsequently went to study sculpture in Paris with a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1949. He studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and with Ossip Zadkine. Well listed and collected. | |
