Original mixed media (pastel, watercolor, and gouache) Art Deco Period painting on paper, circa 1920s, by well known Sacha (Alexander Davidovich) Zaliouk (Ukraine-France/ 1887-1971). This painting measures 24" by 18" (27" by 21") in its original frame. In beautiful original condition, with some very light toning consistent with the age. Signed "Sacha Zaliouk Paris" l.r. Zaliouk studied painting in Petrograd and at the Odessa School of Art in the teens. He collaborated to a number of publications, including "Crocodile" (1911-1912), before emigrating to Paris where he resumed his studies at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts. In Paris he became a well known illustrator, cartoonist, and portrait painter. His works were published by a number of French magazines including Fantasio, Sourire, La Parisienne, and Paris-Plaisirs. Highly collected and represented artist. Listed in all the usual databases and reference works.
